We hit the bay this morning for the negative low tide around 6:30 am and we were not disappointed. We pulled into our first spot and dropped the trolling motor and immediately blew a school of reds out of a pothole. So we motored in a bit to the next pothole and put the stake-out pole down and started throwing in the mullet. The fish were not hitting the topwater plugs so we switched it up to jigs and gulps, that was all it took to turn them on. We ended up landing 9 reds to 27″ and several big trout all from the same pothole. The bite shut down around 10:30 and we called it a day.

Saturday morning on the Bay 3/26
I had a chance to get out on Sarasota Bay this morning with my buddy Ben. We got to the spot at first light. The mullet and bait were thick and the water was slick as glass. We started off throwing top waters and the trout bite was hot right off the bat. We landed 10-15 monster trout before I saw our first redfish push along the edge of a sandbar. I threw my top water 5 feet to the left of the push and it did not go unnoticed. The redfish blew my top water up 5 times before finally eating it. After a 10 minute fight, I landed the fish and picked him up on the Boga Grip. He was 31 1/2″ long and weighed in at over 10 lbs.
We continued our drift, landing several more large trout before we came to another school of mullet. Ben threw his Mirodine Mini into the mullet school and bang, redfish on! He fought the fish for a few minutes only to have it come unhooked before it made it to the boat.
It was a great day on the water. We landed 20+ monster trout and a “pig” redfish. We had beautiful weather and good people.

Under the moon
Me and my buddy Eric got out last night for a couple hours in the kayaks with the fly rods, it’s safe to say that the snook are around. Just about every time the fly went through the light it was followed all the way back to the yak. We had multiple hookups and several short strikes but only managed to land 2 snook to 26″ and some smaller trout. All in all a good night on the water.
